Policies

The purpose of the MakeFixHack makerspace is to support the creative ambitions of its members and to foster a gowing community of makers, hackers, tinkers and others. Instructors may hold programs in the makerspace on a wide variety of topics. Members may also use the makerspace for their own projects.

ACCESS & ELIGIBILITY

Programs and tools in the makerspace are intended for ages 18 and up except in the case of special programming for younger age groups. Individuals who are under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or adult.  Equipment in the Makerspace is available for independent use (outside of a group classroom setting) by individuals who have been trained by staff on the use of individual equipment. First-time independent users of the space must sign a general waiver of risk and a safety agreement. For makers under 18, a parent or guardian must sign the waiver form.

Upon signing a waiver form a notation will be made on the members record: “MakeFixHack General Waiver” with the day’s date and "MakeFixHack Safety Agreement" with the day’s date. The General Waiver and the Safety Agreement are good for 2 years at which point individuals will be retrained on equipment.

TOOL USAGE & TRAINING

Tools and equipment in the makerspace are available to members on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is no charge to use the tools. Makers may be responsible for their own materials, such as vinyl for the Cricut or fabric and thread for the sewing machine. Makers are welcome to bring in their own materials, pending staff approval.

First time users of certain tools must attend a scheduled training(s) in how to use the equipment. After that, instruction will be available on an as-needed basis depending on staff availability. This includes, but may not be limited to: sewing machines, Cricut, CNC Router, 3D printers. This list is subject to grow and change as our makerspace develops.

For equipment such as sewing machines and the Cricut machine, patrons may sign out to use them for two (2) hours at a time; they may extend their time if no one is waiting for the equipment at the end of their time slot. Patrons may use only one machine at a time.
